PRUNUS C. PISSARDII NIGRA

PRUNUS C. PISSARDII NIGRA

Prunus cerasifera ‘Nigra’ is a small to medium ornamental tree valued for its profuse pale pink spring blossom and striking purple foliage. Flowers typically open in early spring on bare branches, bringing early-season colour, and are followed by rich purple leaves that hold their colour through the growing season. Forming a rounded crown, it makes an excellent specimen for Irish gardens and performs best in full sun on moderately fertile, moist but welldrained soil. Minimal pruning is needed once established; if required, prune in summer.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
