Organic ‘Lemon Drop’ Tomato

Organic ‘Lemon Drop’ tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) from the seed company Gaia, a small, bright yellow cherry tomato, tangy, shiny and irresistibly refreshing

The ‘Lemon Drop’ tomato, also known as Lemon Drop, is a small heirloom variety that delights with its bright yellow color and tangy, luminous flavor , subtly reminiscent of lemon zest. Indeterminate and highly productive, it forms long clusters of small, teardrop-shaped cherry tomatoes, perfect for snacks, salads, or decorative garnishes. Their flesh is juicy, crisp, and deliciously vibrant, making it a must-have variety for anyone who loves cherry tomatoes with a fresh and bright character.

‘Lemon Drop’ produces throughout the season, even in varying conditions, and is an excellent candidate for growing in open ground or with light staking. Its bright color beautifully complements trays of heirloom tomatoes and adds a stunning contrast to summer salads.

Farming method

Sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost. Place the seeds 36 mm (1/81/4″) deep in a light potting mix and maintain a temperature of 2329C for rapid germination (510 days). Reduce watering and nitrogen during hardening off to develop strong, vigorous seedlings.

Transplant when all risk of frost has passed. Space plants 60 to 90 cm (24 to 36 inches) apart and leave 120 to 180 cm (4 to 6 feet) between rows. Provide full sun (level 3) , regular watering (watering level 3) , and sturdy support , as this variety can become very prolific.

Harvesting and preservation

Harvest when the fruit is a uniform lemon yellow and slightly soft. To get a head start, pick the fruit as soon as it begins to color , then let it ripen off the vine at 22C or higher . Store between 12 and 21C with 95% relative humidity to maintain freshness.
