Chamaedorea elegans – 12cm

A houseplant since the Victorian era, and still earning its place. Chamaedorea elegans, the Parlour Palm, produces clusters of slender, upright stems topped with graceful, arching, pinnate fronds that give it the classic palm silhouette at a manageable indoor scale. It tolerates lower light levels better than almost any other palm, which is exactly why it has been a popular indoor plant for over 150 years. Slow-growing, compact, and unfussy, it adds a calm, green architectural presence to any room without demanding much in return.

Origins
Native to the rainforests of southern Mexico and Guatemala, Chamaedorea elegans grows as an understorey palm beneath the forest canopy in warm, humid, low-light conditions.

Soil and Substrate
