Carex pendula SEEDS

Carex pendula is an elegant and ornamental perennial sedge native to Europe and Western Asia. It belongs to the Carex genus within the Cyperaceae family. This sedge is well-regarded for its graceful, arching leaves and pendulous flower spikes, making it a popular choice for ornamental gardens and landscapes.

The foliage of Carex pendula consists of long, slender, and arching leaves that can reach heights of up to 3 to 4 feet (about 1 meter). These leaves are typically deep green and create a cascading effect, adding a touch of softness and movement to garden beds. The plant’s name, “pendula,” is derived from its characteristic drooping or pendulous growth habit.

In late spring to early summer, Carex pendula produces tall, drooping flower spikes that can reach up to 3 feet (about 1 meter) in length. These spikes are adorned with small, brownish-green flowers that dangle gracefully from the stems, giving the plant a unique and attractive appearance. While the flowers are not particularly showy, they contribute to the overall charm of the plant.
