Alcea Yellow Hollyhock

Alcea Yellow is a stunning hollyhock that grows 4 to 8 feet tall, showcasing its spectacular blooms from mid to late summer. The spires are packed with 4- to 5-inch double flowers in cheerful yellow hues, their ruffled petals bringing a sunny touch to the garden. These vibrant flowers are pollinator magnets, drawing in butterflies and hummingbirds while also making fantastic additions to summer bouquets.

A variety of Alcea rosea, commonly called hollyhock, Yellow is a cold-hardy perennial suitable for Zones 2-8. Typically biennial, it self-seeds easily, ensuring years of continuous blooms. Its classic charm makes it ideal for butterfly gardens and cottage landscapes. The towering spires create a beautiful sunny backdrop, a natural garden divider, or a striking accent against fences and walls.

Yellow hollyhock thrives in full sun with average, freely draining soil that’s kept moderately moist. It tolerates light shade and a range of soil conditions, making it a versatile choice for many garden settings. A layer of mulch keeps roots cool and moist, promoting healthy growth. Naturally deer resistant, this low-maintenance plant is as practical as it is picturesque.

Before planting, soak the roots for an hour and position the taproot downward. Plant 2 to 3 inches deep and space 24 to 36 inches apart for optimal growth.
