Acer rubrum

A first-rate deciduous tree offering real character in the landscape, prized for its autumn colour.

Expect it to reach around 8m tall by 4m wide at 10 years. It is best in full sun, though it tolerates some shade, in acid to neutral soils, and prefers moisture-retentive soil. It produces red flowers in spring, with attractive grey bark and red fruits. Fully hardy throughout the UK and the flowers are a good nectar source for bees.
