Veronica elliptica SEEDS

Veronica elliptica seeds grow into the shore hebe or oval-leaved hebe a shrubby perennial native to the temperate biome of southern South America (Chile, the Falkland Islands and Tierra del Fuego) and the subantarctic islands, growing in coastal and rocky habitats. Formerly classified as Hebe elliptica; now placed in Veronica by POWO following molecular phylogenetic studies. Produces a bushy, rounded shrub to 12 m with small, oval, glossy leaves and racemes of white to pale lilac flowers. One of the most cold and wind-tolerant of the shrubby Veronica species. Family Plantaginaceae.

Full sun to partial shade; well-drained soils; cool temperate maritime conditions; cold and wind-tolerant. Most southerly shrubby Veronica.

Veronica elliptica is the shore hebe the most southerly of the shrubby Veronica species, its wind and cold tolerance making it among the hardiest ornamental shrubs in the subantarctic regions of southern South America and the Falkland Islands where few ornamental shrubs can survive.
